Zendesk data in Power BI

A live OData feed of your Zendesk tickets, users and metrics that Power BI loads and refreshes like any other source. Nothing to export by hand, and we never keep a copy of your tickets.

A Power BI support overview dashboard built on the feed — backlog, created vs solved, backlog by age and priority
Eight tables, custom fields included

Tickets, ticket metrics, users, organizations and groups, plus tag tables for tickets, users and organizations. Every custom ticket field arrives as its own typed column.

Filter with Zendesk search

Limit a feed to the tickets you care about using the same queries you type into Zendesk, like status<solved or tags:premium.

Read-only, nothing stored

The app asks Zendesk for read access only. Ticket data passes through our service on each refresh and is never written to our database.

The Datasources tab listing several datasources, each with its tables, ticket filter and feed URL

A feed URL for each datasource

A datasource is a saved set of tables plus an optional ticket filter, and each one gets its own feed URL to paste into Power BI. Make as many as you need, say one per report or one per team.

The API Tokens tab with a newly created token and the token list

Access by API token

Power BI signs in with an API token created in the app, so a feed URL on its own returns nothing. Tokens belong to the agent who made them, expire after at most a year, and can be revoked at any time.

A Power BI report page breaking tickets down by product, environment, sentiment and affected platform

A report template to start from

The Power BI template has pages for backlog, resolution times, channels and CSAT, and per-agent workload, built on the standard Zendesk fields so it opens on any account. Adding your own fields, like Product or Sentiment, takes a minute in Power Query.

Common questions

Do you store our tickets?
No. On each refresh, ticket data passes through our service on its way to Power BI and isn’t saved. We store only what the app needs to run: each agent’s Zendesk connection (encrypted), datasource settings, and a hash of each API token. The details are on the Data handling page.
Can the app change anything in Zendesk?
No. It requests read-only access, so it can’t create, edit or delete anything in your Zendesk account.
Who can see my datasources?
Only you. Every agent connects with their own Zendesk login, and datasources and tokens are private to the agent who created them. Your reports contain only the tickets you’re allowed to see in Zendesk.
Are there limits on rows or datasources?
We don’t set any. The practical limit is Zendesk’s own rate limit on its export API, which is why the first load of a large account can take a while.
Do I need Power BI Pro?
Not to build reports. Power BI Desktop is free and does everything described here. Sharing reports with colleagues in the Power BI Service needs Pro or Premium, as it would for any Power BI report.
